Peter Righton

Righton was a founder member of the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE), convicted of child porn offences in 1992. He died in 2007.

Detectives found a huge amount of documentation linking Righton to clergy, civil servants, social services and and education staff. The documents were passed on up the police chain, but no action was taken.

Righton was an associate of Cyril Smith MP.

Righton co-led an investigation into abuse allegations in Larchgrove, Glasgow in the 1970s which resulted in no criminal proceedings.

A report was requested into Righton's case by William Utting for the Department of Health, but it was shut down.
